Austin Grant – May through August 2017

Working as a marketing intern for Wrightstown Health and Fitness this summer was an incredible experience. Since I am studying marketing in school currently, I was optimistic that this internship would help improve my marketing skillset. By the end of the summer, I had learned a great deal of information regarding marketing that will definitely come in handy in the future. After everything that I had learned from the internship, it’s safe to say that I made the right decision about spending my summer at WHF.

During my time at Wrightstown Health and Fitness, I helped run the marketing campaign for the business, alongside my manager Damon and co-intern Nick. As a part of this campaign, I was tasked with running the business’s various social media platforms. In the process, I learned about analyzing target markets in order to generate the appropriate content for your marketing strategy. Damon also taught us how to evaluate the information provided by Google Analytics and Google Adwords, in addition to other SEO-related programs.

Perhaps the most valuable experience was our Cross Promotion project, where we visited several local businesses and discussed the possibilities of marketing together. This experience was advantageous because it taught me about the importance of communicating with other parties in order to help benefit both sides. When a number of the businesses that we met with agreed to cross promote with us, it gave me the feeling that I had really accomplished a great deal and helped affect the business in a positive way.

Interning at Wrightstown Health and Fitness this summer turned out to be an amazing experience for me. I learned a plethora of information about marketing and had the chance to work with many outstanding individuals. I want to thank Damon, Christian, Eric, Vinny, and all of the other exceptional people that I met at WHF for providing me with this opportunity. I wholeheartedly recommend working for Wrightstown Health and Fitness to anyone looking to gain experience and knowledge, while also having a great time simultaneously.

Carly Krysa – June through July 2016

Over the past three months, I was lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to intern at Wrightstown Health and Fitness. During this time, I learned a lot about my career path and goals as a student. I also gained a great deal of insight and knowledge into how the human body works. Christian really opened my eyes to a new way of personal training. He taught me all about how important feet, core, breathing and the glutes are in exercise. I learned ways to strengthen these areas of the body and even participated in making a video with the other interns about how to do these exercises. I now know how important it is to build up these parts of the body to prevent injury and instability down the road. I also learned about the pH of the body. I made a small experiment and tested participants’ pH before and after exercising. The results were extremely interesting and brought to my attention how diet, age and exercise can all alter the pH of the body. While interning, I made smoothies for the clients so they could have something to drink while working out. It is so important to feed the body during exercise to prevent fatigue and a rise in cortisol levels.

Each day at Wrightstown Health and Fitness was filled with something exciting. I also got to shadow Christian multiple days and see his style of personal training. He would tell me about each client and what he does with each one and why. Christian had me assist him with two clients, Chris Gunnerson and Ed McGurk, which was a great experience. I really enjoyed working with them, seeing them improve each week shows how rewarding personal training can be. I also got to teach clients core exercises to help them strengthen and engage their core while exercising. After doing this internship, I have decided I would like to follow the path of becoming a registered dietician, but also become a trainer on the side. Christian and all the trainers at Wrightstown have helped me so much to grow and learn in this field of work. I am so thankful for everything they have taught me and the experience I got to have here this summer.

Cacey Hamilton – June through July 2016

My experience here at Wrightstown Health and Fitness was amazing. I learned above and beyond what I initially expected to learn, especially concerning human physiology. All the material that Christian taught me or reviewed with me related to human physiology was information that I was familiar with, but did not yet have a complete grasp of. It was wonderful to get the opportunity to have a more hands-on experience with real people and compare them to what I learned in my human physiology lectures. Seeing the information in a real-life setting as compared to just in a classroom with a textbook made all the difference. Information actually stuck with me and I feel like I actually learned as opposed to just memorizing information from a textbook in order to pass a test. Whenever my friends and/or family ask me about my internship and how I feel about it, I tell them this every time: “I’ve learned more at my six weeks of my internship than I’ve learned in one semester at college”. Everyone here is so knowledgeable about the human body and put it into terms where it is easy to understand. Everyone here at Wrightstown was extremely helpful and supportive throughout my entire internship and I beyond appreciate the opportunity I was granted. I really enjoyed the individual project I did on diaphragmatic breathing and its importance for workouts and relaxation. I feel like I got a really good grasp on that material which was also the material I struggled with the most in human physiology. The individual project really forced me to use my knowledge and skills that I learned in college in the real world, alongside the information give to me by Christian.

Jen Cader – June through July 2016

My experience as an intern at Wrightstown Health and Fitness was beyond what I expected it to be. I learned so much more about exercise and the human anatomy in the past three months than I have in my entire first year of college. The way Christian presented all of the information made it easier to understand because he applied it to real-world scenarios. Everyone who works here is so knowledgeable and passionate about their craft, and that made it so much fun to come here and learn more. Not only that, but I was also able to get a hands-on experience and work with clients of all different ages and capabilities. As a student with a major in exercise science (pre-physical therapy), it was great to work with clients who required rehab similar to physical therapy. I got a better idea of what I could be doing in the future.

One of my favorite things that I did as an intern was the project that I worked on all summer. Each of the interns had a different project that we had to focus on. My project dealt with the feet and ankles and how they worked with the rest of the body. I spent a lot of time researching the different parts and movements of the feet. I found and came up with some exercises that increase the mobility of the feet and ankles. Our ultimate goal with these exercises was to increase the overall athletic ability and health of the clients here. With Christian’s help, I came up with a list of these exercises that I would go through with many clients. This was so much fun because it gave me an opportunity to go through my own project with others. Not only that, but I created a video going over a few of these exercises that I will be able to take with me in the future. Everyone that comes to this gym was so supportive of the things I was doing in my internship. I am so thankful to Christian and for the experience that I had here. I will take all of the information that I learned here and use it in the future.

We very much appreciate everything our interns bring to the table, and to help them prepare for their future career we provide each of them with a letter of recommendation on successful completion of their internship.
