Deborah Gertner RDN, LDN
Registered Dietitian
Deborah Gertner is a plant-based Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. She helps active individuals and endurance athletes break free from restrictive food rules and embrace sustainable eating habits to support health, athletic performance, and longevity.
With degrees in Anthropology and Global Development from Grinnell College and Nutrition from the University of Minnesota, Deborah brings a unique, global perspective to her practice. She completed her dietetic internship through Iowa State University, with clinical rotations in rural Iowa and field research in Ghana, where she deepened her understanding of the connections between food, culture, and community health.
In her work, Deborah practices from an intuitive, weight-inclusive lens and meets clients wherever they are in their health journey. She puts the “counseling” in “nutrition counseling” – helping her clients explore their relationship with food free of shame, judgment, or guilt.
She especially loves working with athletes and aspiring athletes. She believes chronic medical conditions that can be treated through medical nutrition therapy should not be a barrier to an endurance lifestyle. Whether they’re training for their first 5K or their next Ironman, she empowers them to utilize food as fuel and build lifelong habits that support energy, strength, and joy.
A self-proclaimed adult-onset athlete, Deborah began her endurance journey as a charity runner for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. Since then, she’s completed seven marathons and three Half Ironman triathlons—and she’s just getting started. She currently coaches youth cross-country, soccer, and triathlon and has guided dozens of adults from learn-to-run programs through marathon finish lines.
Deborah lives in Longmont with her partner, two young kids, and a lovable senior dog. When she’s not coaching or in the clinic, you’ll find her out training for her next race or in the kitchen, dreaming up her next plant-powered meal
